Dear Students and Parents,
We would like to announce our plans for the 2018 camp program at Joshua Creek.
Over the years we have enjoyed a really successful camp program and love the feedback we get on how much fun the kids are having. We even get a surprising number of comments from parents saying that their kids ask to switch out of other camps and spend more time with us at Joshua Creek! We love and appreciate the positive feedback but also take your suggestions seriously and aim to continue to provide a better camp experience from one year to the next. The season is no exception and actually represents a big step in our evolution of the camp program…
About one year ago, our Club employed Steve Theodoropoulos (Steve Theo) as our a new Tennis Director and we embarked on an ambitious plan to bring an already good tennis program up to a new level and to align more with Tennis Canada’s new guidelines for teaching. Steve then hired ex-playing professional Gloria Liang to head up the academy programs and they formed a new team to work along side them. As a result, the program took off and built incredible momentum last summer and during the current indoor season. We can’t wait to see what happens this summer as the team and the program continues to evolve. We are offering an expanded line up of classes and have awesome team of teaching professionals on staff. We hope you will join us!
This summer we are planning the same for our camp program. Steve will work closely with our camp team to implement some new directives and as stated, work toward a new level in terms of our camp program. We will keep all the fun, but plan to follow Tennis Canada’s progressive teaching model more closely. We have some amazing new junior nets and other modified equipment that allows kids to rally and progress more quickly and we are increasing the amount of time that the camp participants spend on court each day. We will still give them some fun dodge ball time, soccer and other activities that help contribute to the overall experience, but we would like to ‘narrow that gap’ between the level of instruction that we offer at camp compared to what we offer in our academy programs.
Speaking of our academy kids, we will have certain camp groups that are only open to children who have participated in our various levels of our academy program, providing a camp experience more geared to their level. We may also plan a few girls only groups this summer. Go girl power!!
A dedicated ‘camp teaching professional’ will be added to the team. This individual will not have their own group of kids so they can work closely with the Tennis Director to help assure the instruction is carried out consistently and professionally.
Lastly, we have tried to keep camp costs fair over the years and have tried to contain any sudden increases. This season, with new equipment, more staff, more certified staff and a big increase in minimum wage, there is an increase of 6% to 12% depending on the program. In return, we promise to provide a premium camp experience for you and your children.
